Women’s Day is Sunday, June 28
Gregory Congregational United Church of Christ at 609 Nun Street, Wilmington, will celebrate Women’s Day on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Diane Emerson will be the guest speaker for the occasion. The theme is “A Woman’s Work,” and the colors are pink and white. The public is cordially invited to be a part of this special celebration.
Dr. Emerson attended the local public schools in Wilmington, NC and graduated from Louis D. Brandeis High School in New York City. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Delaware State College, Dover, Delaware, a Master’s Degree in Education from the UNCW, and a Doctor of Philosophy from NC State University, Raleigh, NC. She worked as a high school English teacher and an assistant principal in the public schools of Wilmington.
In Raleigh, she was an education consultant at the NC Department of Public Instruction, Division of School Improvement, Effective Practices Section and was House Education Director in the Office of Speaker James B. Black. Dr. Emerson served in 2004 as House Democratic Education Director in the North Carolina General Assembly. She currently serves as Director of Pre-Kindergarten Programs for the New Hanover County Schools.
